Welcome to Learning Commons

At George Davison our library is no longer just the quiet space full of printed books. We have created an amazing learning commons where it is full of books, resources, work spaces, technology and a bright, open and welcoming space for all students and staff.

Students, along with their teachers access the library weekly to help foster a love of reading, to provide the materials for individual learning levels and needs, and to promote life-long learning. Mrs. Smith, the Librarian, provides support for teachers and catalogues new library resources, as well as provides engaging literacy bins as a classroom resource. Each month a special activity for the school is coordinated to reflect literacy in some manner. Some of the events are: Help grow a Pumpkin Patch, Disguise a Gingerbread Man, Forts & Flashlights, Coloring Contests, Bookmark Challenges and many more.

Goals:

To instill a love of reading in all students.
To create life-long readers for learning.
To create life-long readers for pleasure.
To encourage and support each student's self-directed quest for knowledge.
To provide a comfortable learning commons space.

In addition to our amazing space we have created a fun online learning laboratory for our students and families to enjoy year round. Throughout this site you will discover lots of information for literacy, science, creativity and inspiration. We hope you enjoy our learning laboratory and come back often as more and more things will be changed and added.

Makerspace

The space at the back of our Learning Commons has been transformed into an exciting makerspace! This room is full of supplies, recycled materials, building materials and space! The imagination, creativity and curiosity blossoms in this room. Science experiments, building & creating, art of all types - paint, drawing, cutting and gluing are all enjoyed within these walls.
